Statistics and Society was probably one
of the most surprising classes that I have taken throughout my
university experience. Horror stories about statistics classes are
far more common than I can understand, and having little experience
with the subject and a long hiatus from taking math classes, the
anxiety leading up to this course was practically unbearable. Much to
my satisfaction, this class was nothing like what I had expected.
Yes, the class covered a lot of math, much of which was complete new
to me, but it opened my eyes to the world of data in a way that I was
previously oblivious to. This class bundled up the subject of
mathematics in such a way that it fit neatly within my major. It's
one thing to utilize data, but to understand what it really means,
where it comes from, and what that implies is crucial to credibility
and healthy data gathering.
